Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis with Larry Sloman
I unfortunately have been in a bit of a reading rut while attending graduate school, so once I graduated I knew I had to find a book that would get me back into it. This book was it. From page one I was propelled into Kiedis’ autobiography, constantly torn between sympathy and incredulity. Every page is an emotional rollercoaster that gives readers insight into the mind and thoughts of an addict and rockstar. If you are a fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, rock, or just love biographies/autobiographies that read almost like fiction, this book is for you.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Currently I’m reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Customers have been raving about it since it first came out in 2012, so I’ve been slowly bumping it up my ever-growing ‘To Read’ list. While one or two customers have already given away the ending to me (I forgive you), I’m still completely enraptured. I may know roughly how its going to end, but I honestly have no idea how its going to get there. This novel is sneaky, creepy in the make your arm hairs prick up kind-of-way, and extremely well written.
Harry Hole Novels
I am completely obsessed with the Harry Hole novels by Jo Nesbo. I just read Cockroaches the 2nd book in the series, although I had already read books three through nine, because the first two books in the series, The Bat and Cockroaches, were translated and released later in America. Reading the first two after the others turned out to be perfectly fine however, as the real over-arching story-line begins in book three. The Bat and Cockroaches are really there to show you why Harry is the way he is in the later books. Nesbo does a fantastic job in each book by giving the reader a little bit of background information, but what Harry goes through in the first two novels allows you to really analyze his life and how his personality has been shaped by it. The Harry Hole series is an absolute a must read for anyone who enjoys a little mystery and suspense.
Janet Evanovitch’s Stephanie Plum Series
Any book in this series is perfect for those who are searching for an exciting and down right hilarious beach read! Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, Stephanie Plum, Evanovitch’s sassy and fearless protagonist, is at the end of her rope and desperate for a job. When she decides to become a bounty hunter she meets colorful characters along the way, including local heartthrob and cop Joe Morelli. But with trouble always lurking at every turn Stephanie’s job is anything but easy and this causes her to make multiple enemies. Janet Evanovitch’s Stephanie Plum series is a thrilling read that will have you eagerly turning the next page.
